Exam Overview

CAT (Common Admission Test) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the IIMs for admission to MBA/PGDM programs. It is one of the most competitive exams in India, accepted by 20 IIMs and over 1000 business schools.

Marking Scheme

  • +3 marks for each correct answer

  • -1 mark for each wrong answer (MCQs only)

  • No negative marking for TITA (non-MCQ) questions

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD)

  • Final-year graduation students are eligible

  • No age restriction

Syllabus

  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA): Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Number System

  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR): Charts, Graphs, Tables, Puzzles

  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC): Reading comprehension, Grammar, Sentence correction, Para jumbles

Exam Pattern

  • Total questions: ~66

  • Sections: VARC, DILR, QA

  • Each section time-bound to 40 minutes

  • Question types: MCQs + TITA

  • Total duration: 120 minutes
